Where are you today, when I miss you so
You left in a hurry; did you have to go?
Are you picking thornless roses, beautiful and sweet?
Do you scatter the petals beneath your bare feet?
They say in Heaven there is no pain
no more headaches, and no cold rain
So, what do you do in endless time
With loved ones far and near
I try to imagine how good it is there
Am I selfish to wish you still here?
For so long I’ve sent birthday greetings
For decades I’ve loved you so
Now it’s that time of year again
What to do with them I don’t know
On what we’ve long called your special day
While it may feel like you are far away
In my heart, I still hold you near
As I love you so, Vanessa, dear.
For my cousin, a dearest friend, whose birthday fell on December 5. This will be the first of her birthdate that she is not here with us, to be honored.
